ACHÁVAL FERRER
Owned by successful Argentine businessmen who wanted to do something that "did not involve wearing a tie" Achaval has come along way and blazed a trail for Argentine wine. The quest for quality above all else meant this was the first Argentine wine to receive 96 points from wine spectator. A fantastic few hours touring the winery with knowledgeable guides and a barrel tasting make this one of
Mendoza’s top visits. The winery itself is a brand new facility closed to the wide and dry rio Mendoza.
Location: Azcuenaga 453, Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza
Capacity: 2 million liters
Vines: 24 hectares/60 acres
Exports:
With one of the smallest yields in
Mendoza, 0.8 tones per acre which works out as one bottle per vine. Grapes move along two sorting tables to ensure quality. Wine maker Roberto Cipresso has moulded the bodega in his image, controlling all aspects and really getting into the vineyard so to ensure his harvest is to his requirements. ‘I dream up the wine, in the middle of the vineyard before I make it’
