130km south of
Mendoza city there is a private ranch called Estancia El Parral located in the beautiful high altitude valley known as Valle de Uco. Here we fish on a private river called Arroyo Rosario. This crystal clear stream is one of the best places for rainbow trout in
Mendoza and because it is a private river we can promise absolute solitude.
We use nymphs with floating lines, launched upriver. Dry flies are sometimes used at certain times of the day. The trout are located in the low current and must be approached with caution so as not to be seen. The river has lots of trout and flies are abundant. Our guides are fully trained and able to reveal the secrets of this beautiful river.
Itinerary
We leave
Mendoza at 8am and arrive at Estancia at 9.30am. We follow a mountain road for 30 minutes before arriving at the best part of the river to fish. While we get kitted out, our assistant prepares a food platter of cold meats and cheeses to start the day.
We spend the morning polishing our technique and perfecting the best way to catch in this particular river. The trout weigh between 500g and 1.5kg, sometimes getting as big as 2kg.
At midday we stop to enjoy an asado (Argentine asado) at the side of the river accompanied by some great
Mendoza wines.
After lunch we continue fishing, this time at a higher altitude to get bigger fish.
At 7pm we finish up, have a light supper and return to
Mendoza, arriving at approximately 9.30pm.
The fishing season is possible all year round on this stream, except in November, December and January when the river is high and cloudy with silt.
