Started by a French couple in 1992 Fabre Montmayou recently won the Malbec Trophy for their Gran Reserva 2005 at the 2007 Argentina wine awards. By using one hundred year old vines and original style wine presses (which are softer on the grapes than modern hydraulic presses) this new innovative winery is getting rave reviews. The winery is a traditional design with a tasting room overlooking the barrels.
 

Location: Roque Saenz, Vistalba, Luyan de Cuyo, Mendoza

Capacity: 1 million liters

Vines: 80 hectares/200 acres

Exports: 23 countries including USA, UK and Brazil as well as other countries in Europe, Asia and South America

 

Owned by a French couple this vineyard has 75 acres of old Malbec vines, averaging 50 years old and planted 3200 vines per acre yielding 1.8 tones per acre. In Maipú they also have a vineyard growing 30 year old Cabernet Sauvignon with the same yields but half the density as the Malbec. In Maipú they also have 62 acres of Chardonnay. 25% of their vines are protected with hail nets. Vinification is in stainless steel and aged in oak barrels. The have 450 French barrels and replace one third every year.
