Finca La Celia
FINCA
LA CELIA
A Chilean owned winery making one of Argentina’s top kosher wines as well as fine wines for the domestic and foreign market. It is the only winery that we visit that has a flash heating sterilizing machine that heats the grapes up to 90 degrees Celsius and back to a workable temperature in 4 seconds. Such high tech equipment belies the fact that
La Celia is one of the oldest wineries in
Mendoza. The architecture is delightful and the setting stunning.
Location: circunvalacion s/no, Eugenio Bustons, 5569 San Carlos.
Capacity: 6.6 million liters
Vines: 400 hectares/1,000 acres

Transformed from an 1890 vineyard only the walls now remain from the original winery. It now has a new roof with cooling pipes, numerous stainless steel tanks and automatic temperature control. Finca
la Celia makes the international brand, Gato Negro. Cement tanks are used for the top reds. The vineyard is 1/3 flood irrigated and 2/3 drip, they grow Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot, Tempranillo, Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc with the vines ranging from 5 – 15 years old. The newer vines are grafted onto American root stock. Yields are 2.4 tones per acre for the top of the
La Celia Line, 4.8-5.6 tons per acre for the
La Consulta line and 6-7.2 tones per acre for the Magallanes wines.
