The seventh winery (hence the name septima) of the Catalonian Cordoniu, a Reventos family business. When driving into
Argentina from
Chile on route 7 this is the first winery you come across. Opened in 2001 and surrounded by the wineries 7-year old vines of Syrah, Tempranillo, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo and Tannat, all vertically trained and drip irrigated. Maximum yields are 4 tonnes per acre, with 2.4 tons per acre for Malbec. Ruben Calvo the winemaker cold macerates the reds at between 77 and 80.6oF. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. There are no bleedings and pressed wine goes to the most economical ranges. Neither inner staves nor chips are used; there are 1500 oak barrels, 90% American and the rest French. They do not want the wood covering up the taste of their fruity American style wines. 70% is exported.
