O.FOURNIER
No, not an Irish run winery as the name would suggest but arguably the most impressive winery we have here in
Mendoza. Situated south in the
valley of
UCO it is a good drive (approx 90 minutes) but well worth it. If Darth Vader owned a vineyard this is what it would look like, and the architecture is only the start. The restaurant based on a Spanish theme has wonderful views of the nearby
Andes
Mountains. It is a top bodega experience from the quality of their guides to the sheer indulgence of their wines.
Certainly a definite for any visit to UCO.

SALENTEIN
Designed by the same architects as O.Fournier and equally as impressive, Salentein is a Dutch owned winery with ambitious vision. It is very well set up for tourism with a special visitor centre that includes an excellent art museum. Modern sculptures vie with a dramatic setting and an imposing interior that reminds many of a James Bond movie set. There is also a fine restaurant where you can sample the range of wines over such delicacies as beef with Malbec sauce whilst enjoying a great view of the snowy peaks. Read more...
ANDELUNA
Part owned by Ward Lay of Lays potato crisps but there is not a potato in sight. Instead
you’ll find a modern winery with unparalleled views of the
Andes and excellent wines including an award winning Cabernet Sauvignon. The guides here are very
knowledgeable and are always willing to discuss the wines over the cheese and wine tasting. In the old world tasting room there is a rare example of a cooler system that provides wine tastings by the glass.
A Chilean owned winery making one of
Argentina’s top kosher wines as well as fine wines for the domestic and foreign market. It is the only winery that we visit that has a flash heating sterilizing machine that heats the grapes up to 90 degrees Celsius and back to a workable temperature in 4 seconds. Such high tech equipment belies the fact that La Celia is one of the oldest wineries in Mendoza. The architecture is delightful and the setting stunning. Read more... |
